Black-throated laughing thrushes are highly sociable birds with numerous calls for communication among themselves. They maintain proximity to their mates and frequently engage in mutual preening. Both males and females display the same feather colors.

 

Nests are constructed using leaves and lined with soft materials like feathers. The incubation period lasts for 14 days. The chicks are relatively helpless (altricial) initially but grow rapidly and can consume food equivalent to their own body weight each day. Fledging occurs approximately 16 days after hatching. A pair of thrushes may have several broods in a single year.

 

They do not migrate and often remain close to their birthplace. Bathing is accomplished by hopping in and out of water repeatedly. At Bird Kingdom, they have been observed taking sunflower seeds and striking them against rocks to crack them open for consumption.
